Polaroid Spectra - Where to Get it, and What Makes it Unique

The Spectra is a series of Polaroid instant produced by the company in the early 1980s. These have experienced a huge second wave in popularity recently from those disillusioned by the ethereal nature of digital , and likewise enchanted by the unique and quirky nature of these amazing and special .

Are you looking for a cheap source of film for your Spectra? or Looking to buy a Spectra, and get into the exciting and artistic world of Instant Film Photography? Check out our deals on Polaroid Spectra Film and Cameras today.

Polaroid Spectra film is similar in function to regular Polaroid instant integral film, as the film develops in your hand once the picture is taken and the camera spits out the film. The difference in Polaroid spectra film is the size: spectra film is a rectangular format that differs from the more widely recognised square format used by the popular 600 series.

This unique film, combined with the Spectra's superior lenses and higher build quality, make the spectra a widely sought after camera by Polaroid lovers of old, and those just getting into the resurgence of the Polaroid photography trend.

Polaroid Spectra film as a result is widely sought after and can be hard to find, and when you can find it, it can be very expensive. Polaroid Spectra film comes in packs of 10 or 12 shots.

You can likely still find film for sale at larger or specialist film camera stores, but as stated it is likely to be very expensive. The best place to buy this rare film is online, and searching online venders such as Amazon or eBay can sometimes yield bargains, or at least prices slightly more agreeable than bricks and mortar stores. Keep an eye out for bulk packs, which can be an expensive initial outlay, but the saving per shot can be quite significant. A good idea is to get together with some other Spectra enthusiasts and all pitch in to reduce the cost and split the film between you.

- They're Back, and They're Awesome

With the announcement in that the Impossible Project will begin producing instant film for Polaroid cameras in the very near future, the time has never been better to get into Polaroid photography.

Looking to get into the exciting and artistic world of Instant Film Photography? Pick up a Polaroid Instant Camera today, wow your friends and expand your portfolio with beautiful retro-styled Polaroid shots.

The Polaroid instant camera system represents a series of cameras that have been in production since the 1960s that use a unique self developing film to instantly provide a photograph from each shot taken.

Polaroid instant cameras have recently had resurgence in popularity, as a new generation has fallen in love with the instant memento and quirky and unique photographic characteristics produced by these special cameras. With their nostalgic retro styling and the ability to produce instant physical photograph, Polaroid instant cameras have been embraced by hipsters the world over, and you'll see the coolest of the cool clutching theirs at nightclubs and other hotspots all over the world.

Polaroid instant cameras use a range of film or film packs, the type of which will depend on the model of camera you have. Very early models use a set of two film rolls, later models used a ‘film pack', that required the photographer to removed the film from the camera and separate the pack to end the developing process. The more common and recent film used by Polaroid cameras is the 600 film, which is the iconic integral developing film, which requires no steps to be taken by the photographer to develop.

The most popular model, and the model you are most likely to find in good working order either in your uncle's attic or for a steal on eBay, is the 600 series. The 600 uses the classic integral film packs that produce the iconic white bordered Polaroid photographs.

A Polaroid instant camera is a great way to experience old school instant photography, and they can be found for a steal online and in second hand stores or garage sales.

What Do Tweetups & Have In Common?

The rise in digital media and technology has definitely given us many advantages over the last decade. Entrepreneurs can run an entire business using only a smartphone and a laptop. But is all of this change for the better? Do we lose something when things go digital? It can be easy to lose sight of our actions and relationships in the digital world if they’re not reinforced by physical actions. Often, we’re too focused on the digital side of something, and fail to see the effects and impact something has in the real world. To balance this out, we need to find the intersection between the two, and making things tangible, real again and making virtual reality back to reality.

Examples

Tweetups – Out of all of the people you follow on Twitter, and those that follow you, how many of them have you actually met in person? Chances are, there are very few. While Twitter has done a great job of helping us establish new connections with people from all over the world, these connections can be made even more powerful and effective when you’re able to converse in more than 140 characters, instead of talking face-to-face with someone else. Tweetups are a way people are making this happen. In any given city, someone can start a Tweetup, spreading the word about it and organizing all of the happenings using only Twitter. Tweetups provide a way to reinforce the relationships we make online by establishing a real, human connection.

Polaroid – Not everyone is transitioning to digital . In 2009, a massive campaign by Urban Outfitters, as well as an independent group The Impossible Project, successfully brought back the production of the classic Polaroid . This group has proved that just because are going digital doesn’t mean everyone wants them to be that way, while at the same time proving the power of the crowd.

Stats

  • While stocks have been unpredictable, the price of gold reached an all-time high of $1,200 per ounce in Dec. 2009.
  • In a survey done by Rasmussen Reports, 81 percent of respondents said they prefer reading a book in a traditional printed format as opposed to a digital reading device.
  • People who pay with cash spend about 20% less on average than those who use credit cards.

Take Aways

We cannot forecast that we’ll go completely digital anytime soon. There will always be resistance, and many times, it may be for the better. While there are has no doubt been improvements made in our lives because of new technologies, we may be losing those things that we hold closely, without even realizing it. Though a friendship can be maintained via the Internet, it will never be the same as seeing someone in person.

We often lose sense of what is real if we don’t encounter it very often. With nearly every retailer accepting credit and debit cards, the use of cash has declined significantly. We receive salaries through electronic transactions, never actually seeing the money or even a check – just...

Types and Models of Polaroid Digital

The type of with self-developing film is known as instant . Polaroid Corporation makes the famous Polaroid cameras.
Based on the type of film used, Polaroid cameras can be classified. The older Polaroids used instant film roll. Roll films were of two types: Positive or developing agent and negative. These rolls were available in three sizes. Pack film was later used in cameras, in which the photographer has to pull the film from the camera for developing and subsequently the positive and the negative have to be peeled separately while developing. This Pack film was available initially in a rectangular format and later in square format. Subsequent Polaroids such as the once famous SX-70 model utilized a square format integral film, which had the developer, negative, fixer etc in the same film. Development of each exposure was automatic once the shot is taken.
That’s the history of Polaroid camera. Polaroid digital cameras are now available in various types. You should be happy to know that there are certain models designed specially for a good cause. The m635P model from Polaroid Corporation was designed solely for promotion of breast cancer research. Polaroid Corporation along with actress Elizabeth Hurley initiated to offer a combined donation of $60,000 for the above Research foundation in the year 2006. Pink, light pink and magenta models of Polaroid digital cameras were launched especially for the above good cause and awareness.
One more noted achievement from Polaroid is the launch of the ION digital camera which combines high-end features and is easy to use. This ION digital camera has an on-board memory of 8MB and is light and compact, suitable for traveling people. Other features of this ION digital camera include automatic white balance with auto exposure, a 10-second electronic timer, the capacity to capture AVI video clips along with audio like a web cam, 640 x 460 pixel resolution, Arc Soft software on DVD, two AAA batteries and a USB cable.
Another great model from Polaroid is PDC 4355, which has glass lenses of high quality for Zoom and normal, 4.2 MP resolutions, 3x Optical Zoom and a fast CCD sensor. This is a good camera for photographers for point and shoot simplicity coupled with great optical performance. In the 3x optical and 4x digital zoom modes, the glass lens system permits for exposures for distances of 15 centimeters to infinity and has three modes for image quality and video clip functions.
This Polaroid digital camera has other features such as macro mode, auto focus, Inbuilt flash having the on, off and red eye and auto modes. The PDC 4355 model has an Inbuilt flash memory of 16 MB to store your video clips and pictures, later expandable up to 256MB with any available Secure Digital card. This camera also supports Print Image Matching feature that has the ability to have the camera and mode settings along with the images recorded.
You can easily upload the images to your computer through an USB cable by using the software ‘ Impression 5.0’. This software can launch your desktop automatically, detect any new photos in the camera and permit you to transfer them to your computer at the click of the OK button. This handy camera allows you to take pictures within a few minutes of receiving and is powered by two AA batteries.

Kids' Birthday Parties - Top 5 Fun Children's Birthday Ideas

When planning kids' birthday parties, a single theme that combines decorations and activities can be lots of fun and keep the children entertained (a fun thought for the grownups!). But there's no need to wear yourself out with complicated arrangements before the party's even started: here are 5 children's birthday ideas that will be enjoyable for the kids ... and easy for busy grownups to plan!

Good Sport Kids' Birthday Party Ideas - Go For the Gold

Think Olympics as a theme for a children's birthday party. Depending on when the birthday party is taking place, you can do simple variations on summer or winter events such as gymnastics and relay races and set up your party space for indoor or outdoor play. Hang flags from different countries and buy foil-covered chocolate circles in gold and silver to award as “medals” to all the kids participating. You can decorate your kids' birthday party cake like the Olympic flag or, instead of a birthday cake, serve cupcakes colored and arranged like the Olympics flag circles: blue, yellow, black green and red.

A Capitol Kids' Birthday Party Idea - Hail to the Chief

Your child doesn't have to be old enough to vote for you to elect a presidential theme for a kids' birthday party. And no one has to choose sides, either: just decorate the birthday cake and party space in all-American red, white and blue. In addition to regular party games, one activity you can do at this kids' birthday party is have the girls and boys write down one thing they each would do if they were president. Or they can write one question they have for the current commander in chief, and you can send it to the White House on their behalf.

Just Boys Kids' Birthday Party Idea - It's a Bird, It's a Plane ...

Boys love playing superhero, and if you're having a birthday party just for boys, a fun kids' birthday party idea and activity would be to have them come as their favorite superhero. You can also transform the guests into superheroes at the children's birthday party with the help of some store bought or homemade masks and capes. The boys can even make their own masks, and one birthday party activity can be for them to use their imaginations and make up a brand new superpower.

Just Girls Kids' Birthday Party Idea - It's Tea Time!

If your children's birthday party is going to be an all-girl affair, how about having the birthday girl host a tea party? It can be simple or fancy, depending on the girls' ages and what's easily available to you. If the girls are little, use different-colored napkins to set the table prettily and serve iced tea in plastic cups. For older girls, using china cups and saucers would be an elegant way to celebrate at your child's birthday party. If you don't want to risk your own fine china, look around at local thrift stores or garage sales for a mix-and-match variety of dishes.

Cropping Photos, An Easy Guide for Scrapbookers

One of the basics of scrapbooking is cropping photos. Some tend to avoid cropping, not sure of how to go about it. Others may go to the other extreme, cropping every photo.

Looking back at my first albums, I see that all the photos were cropped, often in many different shapes. I would usually cut almost all of the background out of most of the photos. Through the years, as I have learned more about scrapbooking, and gained experience, the way that I crop photos has changed.

I look back at those early albums and wish I hadn't cropped out so much of some of the photos. Sometimes the backgrounds in our photos tell part of the story. I have learned that sometimes, less is more.

There are some good reasons to crop the photos for our scrapbooks. We can crop our photos to fit more on a page, and also to create visual variety that is pleasing to the eye. Let's take a look at some of the ways we can crop photos for beautiful scrapbook pages.

  • Crop for Balance and Focus – We can crop photos for balance. I know I don't always take the time to compose every shot. Kids often don't hold still very long, making it difficult to get that perfect shot. Cropping photos can shift the focus where we want it.
  •  Crop to Enlarge – With digital photos, this is very simple. Sometimes the subject of the photo is too small, and gets lost in the picture. If we cropped around the subject the photo would be too small. We can crop to enlarge the subject by using photo editing software or at the photo lab before the photo is printed. If you only have a printed photo, try scanning the photo and then crop before reprinting.
  • Crop Out Distractions – Sometimes we want to keep some of the background, but distracting backgrounds can be cropped out. Some backgrounds are very busy, pulling our eye away from the subject. Maybe we don't want the dirty dishes in the background. When photos are taken in public places we can crop other people out of the photos.
  • Crop for Creativity – Photos can be cropped into creative shapes. This should be used very sparingly. Squares and rectangles are classic shapes that will always look pleasing. If it suits the layout, sprinkle a fun shape in here or there to add variety to a page. As a general rule one creative shape on a page is enough.

Now we have looked at some of the ways we can crop our photos. Try cropping very little at first, as you arrange your page layout you can always go back and crop more. There are also some some things we don't want to do when cropping photos.

  •  Instant Photos – Never crop instant photos (polaroid). The chemicals inside that were used to develop them can bleed out and ruin your scrapbook page. The layers can also come apart. If you must, scan them, print them on regular photo paper and crop them instead. If you don't like the white border, try hiding it behind a photo frame.
  •  Historical / Place References – Remember not to crop out all historical or place references. The places that the photos were taken tell part of the story.
  •  Shapes – Limit cropping photos into shapes. This will tend to overwhelm the page. Sprinkling an occasional circle or oval to accent a page. Use irregular shapes sparingly.
  •  One of a Kind Photos – Never crop a one of a kind photo. Scan these photos and crop those if you need to crop to fit in your page layout.
  •  Heritage Photos – Avoid cropping photos taken before 1950. The paper these photos were printed on is a fiber-based paper. Cropping will cause the edges to fray and the photos to deteriorate.

Keep these tips for cropping photos in mind. Soon you will be cropping with ease, and creating stunning scrapbooks.

The Best Way to Download the Images From Camera to a Computer

All digital photographers need to download their from their camera or memory card to their computers at some stage. Here we will discuss the best way to perform this process.

The safest and easiest way to import your photos is by removing your cameras memory card from your camera and taking advantage of a memory card reader. I refer to this option as the safest way meaning that this is the safest option for your camera. Ideally we would have a clean tidy computer desk with no note papers, disks, or books lying about. I only wish that my computer desk looked like that, no matter how hard I try my computer work space is the of disorganized chaos. Placing my camera anywhere near my computer desk is putting it in the direct line of danger of being accidently dropped, even If I was to take care of where in the mess I put my camera it will eventually become unstable as I search among the papers for that "thing" I am looking for, without fail it will eventually find its way dangerously resting on the edge of the desk, if it could speak it would be calling out "help mummy I scared, save me".

Let’s just imagine for a moment that by some miracle my work desk was image perfect clean and tidy, so there I sit with my coffee in one hand and my trusty camera on the other. I could bet my bottom dollar that at some stage as I am distracted or tired that my coffee and my camera will meet in some unfortunate accident.

Even if I was some wicked person who did not cherish my beautiful camera I might consider that it could be replaceable. Sadly my photos are never replaceable. For goodness sake please save yourself heartache and put your camera away. Transfer your photos to your computer by removing your memory card your camera and using a card reader.

Digital photo card readers are very inexpensive to buy if your computer does not have one already installed. Card readers are available as USB external hardware or internal hardware. You may decide on a multi card reader or choose a card reader specifically made for your memory card. I recommend a multi card reader for versatility. If choosing to install an internal card reader you may very easily do this yourself by simply removing your unused "A" drive and replacing your photo card reader in this position. If you are uncomfortable with opening your computer your local computer technician will do this for you, usually at a minimum fee and with no fuss.

Once you have your digital camera connected to your computer, or preferably your camera safely put away and your memory card in the card reader the next step in best photo download practice is to transfer your digital photos with the aid of respected and trusted professional photo import software such as RoboImport.

Without professional downloading software you are faced with a tedious and time consuming task. RoboImport will automate the transfer process but also offers many other advantages and features necessary for professional digital photographers. Without professional software downloading your photos to your computer is nothing short of 14 steps including opening your camera or card reader, creating and naming the destination folder, renaming individual images, (this is no quick task with hundreds or thousands of photos to process), rotating photos, correcting resolution problems, adding necessary IPTPC information, tagging GPS coordinates when desired, double checking, backing up, clearing the cards images and starting your preferred photo organizer. Using professional photo downloader and photo renaming software like Roboimport that will even open your image manager turns these 14 steps into 1.

Using a professional digital picture transfer software also ensures that your photographs metadata and EXIF information is transferred completely and safely with your photos.
