Children Photograpy

children photograpy

In the days of my old Nikon F, I had a few lenses each with a different purpose. I had my favorite 105mm telephoto lens, my 43 to 86mm zoom lens which I often doubled with a doubling ring, and a few more. I couldn't rally afford a macro lens, so with a reverse ring by Vivitar, I was able to attach my telephoto lens of 105mm backwords, thus allowing me to take awesome macro pictures of flowers, close- ups of raindrops on leaves etc..The raindrop shots were so close, that the water acted as a magnifying glass on the leaf. Awesome!

Understanding the true function of a lens is relatively simple. It all has to do with focal length and field of view. Whether your camera be a digital one with a fixed lens, or one that allows you to switch lens, most often you're using a zoom lens. 'Focul length' is better defined as follows;

The 'focul length' simply determines how much of a scene it will capture. A 'normal' focul length will capture a horizontal field of about 45 degrees for example. While a wide angle lens captures a wider field, such as 90 degrees and more. Telephoto lens are great for close-ups because, it captures a much smaller field of view. Actually any background as you focus on your main subject will appear blurry, or out of focus, which makes for a really nice effect.

Most people understand how a zoom lens works. You zoom out to get more of a scene, while you zoom in to get less of a scene. But since the advent of digital cameras, in comparison to our old 35mm cameras, the relationship between focal length and field of view has changed somewhat because the dimension of the sensors in the cameras are now different, and much smaller. Confusing? Sure is!

What this means for you is that unless you're a real photography nut, and really want to know what each of your lens will do , you shouldn't concern yourself with all of this stuff. But let's assume you really need to know for whatever reason.

In the old days of the 35mm with film, If you owned a wide angle lens, you could count on the fact that it would deliver an end result (a ) almost exactly how you saw it in your camera viewer. But today, using the same lens on a digital camera will give you a complete different result.

For example, I'm holding in my hand my wife's HP digicam with a 7-21mm zoom lens. But because it's a digital, this small lens will give me a result compared to and up to my 105mm telephoto lens, because of the size of the sensor. Still confused? Don't blame you. Bottom line is that most of you have given up on old 35mm cameras, and only use digital anyway. And as is with any camera, just as it was in the 35mm era, you still need to test in many different situations to get any good at it.

For example, I can take a sunset scene and within 5 minutes get a whole bunch of different effects just by using different aperture openings. You don`t need a course to be a good photographer. You just need to read up on what all these numbers mean and do, and as you experiment take notes.

Here's a trick I learned very early in my photograpy years; every time you take a shot, make a note on the lens you used, the apeture opening, the scene, and the shot # you're at. In this way, you can generally repeat the process for your favorite shoot. Anyway, if you plan on entering any photo contest, as you submit your entry, you usually have to inform them of the type of lens you used, the aperture opening, the ASA/ISO rating etc., hence the importance of notes when it comes to serious photography, digital or not.

A essay is telling stories with pictures. They can be more interesting and/or persuasive than using words to tell the same story. This method of storytelling is not new. In fact they have been around as long as photography itself. A photo essay engages the viewer at a very personal level. While people can respond to written stories intellectually, essays often create an instant emotion within the viewer. Many center on injustice and/or suffering because of their power to evoke instant emotion in viewers. I just recently received a request for money to help repair children's facial anomalies. The mailing presented a of several different children before and after surgery that immediately elicited a "compassionate" response as I viewed them. It was definitely a marketing technique aimed at getting people to send donations once compassion was felt through viewing the photo essay.

They can change people's opinions often quicker than the written word as has been demonstrated by Civil War photographer Matthew Brady and his team. As he recorded events with photographs they changed our nation's opinion of war being a noble experience. They can be about any subject or event, large or small, dramatic or otherwise. A common thread to all are a sense of durability that stands the test of time documenting any aspect of our life.

Many are taken over a long period of time telling the stories of neighborhoods requiring a to return for months or years. The learns times and places of specific events and where he or she is most likely to capture the best photographs for a developing photo essay. I think historical neighborhoods are great places to develop a continuing neighborhood photo essay.

Tips of how to tell a story using photographs:

• Use text captions

• Write a full length

• Photos alone can tell some stories adequately

• The essay may follow chronological order to show progress of a particular person or event over time.

• Photo essays can be planned or creatively put together. Most of mine have not been planned step by step. As I take photos and later recall the mood, the feelings, the events while taking them the essay appears as if by some kind of mystical guidance and sometimes so quickly I can hardly keep up with the compilation, then suddenly, it is complete and I re-read what I just created to find a meaning I truly did not start out intending to create. Photography, for me, has had a mystical component and is definitely of its own kind.

You can find photo essays:

• In mailings asking for donations to charitable causes

• Magazines

• Published as books

• On display in art galleries

• Part of a photo album, I have a photo album resume with pictures of me using office machines in different jobs, sitting at desks, typewriters, computers and views of the surrounding areas. I created it only for personal use, however, a photo essay resume could become part of anyone's professional portfolio regardless of the occupation or profession

Photo essays do not always have to tell true stories. You can create fiction or non-fiction photo essays.

Children Photgraphy

Do you love being outdoors, or watching the world turn to a white Winter Wonderland? Are you fascinated with the first snow fall? If any of these ring true, you should consider landscapes with a winter scene as the main focus.

What Equipment do you need for Winter Landscape photography?

First is what you are going to wear, and what you can carry along. You need to choose your clothing for warmth; you should have a hat, gloves, scarf, a nice thick coat with quality lining, snow boots, flannel shirts and corduroy pants. This may sound like a lot but really cannot go out taking winter shots in your jeans and tennis shoes and expect to take the time needed for a good shot.

You need to carry extra supplies for your camera as well and putting what you can inside zip-lock bags, it may be time consuming but will keep the elements from attacking them. You want to carry extra batteries and film. The cold can be hard on these and not having a spare when you need it is a bad idea. Be prepared.

Getting the perfect winter scene.

You will find that the air is crisper and cleaner than other times of the year, which will help your pictures turn out more vibrant than before. However, the lighting will be much different as the snow reflects light, you need to make sure you are using polarized lenses to keep the extra light from ruining your picture. Different lighting changes the shapes and colors of everything. You might want to start out with the same shot once in the bright sunlight and another on a cloudy day. The contrast between the two will take your breath away.

Setting up your camera.

The first thing you want to do after you have setup the tripod, is to make sure your flash is either turned off for daylight or set to 2 or 3 second interval after taking the picture. This helps to ensure that your lighting is not disturbed or the picture has an unreal or fake feel t it.

You need to set the exposure or time the lens is open to a longer setting, this allows the light to filter in, bringing out the contrast in the objects of the image. You need to know the specifications on your cameras before planning your Winter Landscape trip. It will help you to determine what your camera can and cannot handle.

When you using a digital camera, you need to allow your camera to adjust itself and then you can adjust the exposure time by noticing the differences in each picture you take. This is one of the nicer benefits of many digital cameras; they have a LCD Screen to view the picture you just took.

Getting the color right.

Remember that even though snow looks white, it normally takes on the colors of the sky and surrounding images. If the sky is Grey, try using a colored filter, and for blue skies try using a correction filter instead. Remember that no matter the type of filter you are using, it is best to take multiple shots of the same setting, changing the lenses and exposure settings. This is called " bracketing." This will greatly improve your chances of getting that right shot.

Winter Landscape Photography can be both exhilarating and inspiring, but it takes time and practice to get the pictures just right. You might even consider carrying a notebook with you and marking what adjustments you made for each shot. You can then go back and see what worked and what didnÂ’t, or duplicate the right settings again.
