I actually did compare it to our 1Ds MkII. This camera can produces usable images up to ISO 3200. Noise is there but they do a good job of controlling it. With this said, it would be noted that there really isn't that much difference between a Canon 20D and the most expensive DSLR for photos that will be displayed on the web or in regular size prints. If you don't really need video then you can save yourself a lot of money and just get a used 20D :) I actually still have my original 20D as a backup.

I had the 50D for more than six months. I'm not complaining at all. I love the look, size, ability. Kit lens is good enough for me when I had no money for fancy Canon "L" lenses. 

I mainly chose this camera is the second character, or even Rebel T1i, because it is full. I have big hands, and many other camera seemed a bit awkward for me. It fits well. I also love to be a bit of weight, because it feels more like a lightweight plastic camera. 

It's not video, but I really should not miss. Currently I am busy to learn the adoption of large images. If I ever master that, I upgraded to the new reality that in the future. 

If you are just parents who want to snap pictures of children or home I would say that it is probably unnecessary. If you want to study photography a hobby or even profession, this camera is a good choice, which should give many years of use.

After shooting with several point and shoot cameras (Sony DSC T-1 to the DSC T-700) I was intrigued by the DSLR - motivated by the recent affordability and picture quality. Also, I'm a firm believer that it's the photographer and not the equipment that makes the shot. However, it's inescapable that a DSLR has a broader range of application and there are limitations inherent with the point and shoot. So, about a year ago...along comes the Canon 50d. 
After shooting with the 50d for about one year, I'm still amazed by the increased picture resolution and sharpness. Additionally, the Canon implements a faster method to change the camera settings - instead of scrolling thru menus and making a selection, just push a button to instantly access a feature. That's it in a nut shell...versatility, quality, and ease of function. Fabulous integration of technology and art. I highly recommend the Canon 50d.

New to Photography

I have never owned a prosumer camera in my life. I bought a 30d for a friend as a gift and shot with it a couple of times. The results I get with the 50d far outshine that of the 30d but I can't tell you why. Not an expert. I just know you can't beat the price and the 28-135mm lens produces wonderful shots. I like pulling it all the way out, setting the camera on AV mode at 5.6 and getting that beautiful blurry background with my subject in focus. I have two friends with the 30d and they have both found my camera extremely desirable. One attractive quality is that you can see all of the settings when you look in the view finder so you can make adjustments while you are framing up a shot. I can't wait to really learn the camera. The user's manual is okay but I preferred getting the field guide.

Wow! It feels solid. My first impression says it all. Debate between Canon and T2i 7D. Before T2i feels lighter, a bit 'like a toy camera. 7D feels solid, but not worth the money. 
This is my first Nikon DSLR, and here to stay. Go Nikon 16-85mm , and will not be disappointed! 720p video is too good. In general, I'm glad I made the right choice.

Great Camera

This is an awesome camera. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a bit heavy to carry around and it does require a great deal of time to learn the features. I am a "Nikon snob" and have an older Nikon 6006 SLR that has served me well for years. Now that I'm retired and have more time for my photography habit, I wanted to move up to a SLR. I chose the D90 because I can use the auto-focus lenses I already own. If I didn't already have the lenses, I would have bought the D5000. I also love the HD video ability of this camera. I've only been using it for a short time and the difficulties I've encountered are purely of the "operator error" type. The camera is fantastic! Geared more for professionals and serious hobbyists than amateurs. I love it.
Great New Camera

Great camera. I still have a lot to learn but I just set it on automatic and go. Eventually I'll try all the new features but the pictures are great and the screen on the back of the camera gives you a great idea of how good your picture really is. I'm having a great time taking pictures and driving everyone crazy with Smile!

Excellent Camera

I am extremely satisfied with the D90. I've long been a happy Nikon customer, and it was definitely time to upgrade from my N65 to a digital SLR. I've had it for about a month and have already taken more than 1,000 shots. The best thing about this camera is the editing features. I like minimal editing on my shots, and I can do everything I want before the even gets to my computer--change the lighting, add a filter, crop etc. I was also thrilled to save a few hundred dollars and use the lens that came with my N65. It works perfectly. I'm really impressed with the low-light shots I've been able to get. This camera uses every bit of light it can find and produces crisp photos when I was sure I'd get a blurry mess. I would definitely recommend the D90 if you are in the market for a digital SLR. You won't be disappointed.
I LOVE MY NEW DSLR

I love my new Nikon D90. It is not overly large and cumbersome so it is easy to take wherever you go. I had already owned a Nikon SLR camera so the lenses from this camera easily fit my DSLR which was a great savings. It is incredibly easy to take tons of pictures...download the good ones and delete the not so good ones. This camera also has a video option which I plan on using in the very near future. I am just a beginner photographer so I am really looking forward to trying out all the options this camera has to offer. So far it is very userfriendly and takes fantastic pictures. I am totally impressed and would definitely recommend this camera.
